1935 World Road Championships - Monza, Italy
September 1935 - Italian media footage of the first ever ladies European Championship and the second mens championship on the road in Monza, Italy. This particular footage has had colour added to good effect.
1938 World Track Championships - Wembley-London, Great Britain
This footage shows the very first officially recognised world track championships held at the Empire Pool Arena (now the SEE Arena) in April 1938 at Wembley, London. There were triumphs for British skaters Bill Ross, Arthur Cooper and Harold Wilkinson - the only pre-war world champions for Great Britain.
1938 World Road Championships - Ferrara, Italy
The second official World Road Championships for senior men and the third official European Road Championships for senior women in the Piazza Ariostea, Ferrara, on 18th and 19th September 1938. The event was notable for three gold medals from four events for Frenchman Louis Fichaux and two from three for Italian lady Adriana Rianda.
1953 World Road Championships - Venice-Lido, Italy
1953 saw the emergence of legend Les Woodley who alt just 18 years of age gets his first medal at a World Championships. This was also the very first World Championships for women and the British girls aquitted themselves superbly with Pat Kirkham gaining a couple of fourth paces just behind the dominant Italians.
1956 World Track Championships - Barcelona, Spain
First time out for Leo Eason who just missed out on victory when falling just before the finish line. Medals also for Les Woodley, Geoff Wright and Graham Stead. Pat Eason was the sole GB lady and took medals in all events which earned her the Vandervell Trophy.
1957 World Road Championships - Palermo, Italy
1957 World Championships in Palermo, Italy. Great Britain did not send a team to these championships stating the lack of suitable training facilities as the major reason.
1965 World Road Championships - Wetteren, Belgium
The 1965 World Road Championships saw Ricky May cement himself into British roller speed skating history books with his final world championship medal from his illustrious career. It was also notable for the one and only outing for London youngster, Donna Nash. (Video has no sound).
1969 World Track Championships - Mar del Plata, Argentina
Footage of racing at the World Championships in Mar del Plata in 1969. This was John E. Fry's first outing in a GB shirt and is the only known footage of Bill Sharman and John Folley. Taken on an 8mm camera it shows John Folley becoming Great Britain's last World Champion when he won the 10,000 metres title.
1973 European Track Championships - Grenoble, France
European Championships at Grenoble, France. First international outings for John Mullane, Gerard Bissett and Gwen Marriott. Patrick Feetham was a traveling reserve who later partnered Mick McGeough in the relay. Pat Eason takes home her final major international medal with a bronze in the 5000 metres.
1975 World Road Championships - Sesto San Giovanni-Milan, Italy
The video was filmed on an 8mm camera by British skater Brian Corneloues (owner of Beadle Skates) and shows both men's and women's races from the 1975 World Road Championships. Footage includes the placing of John E. Fry in various distances and the winning of the 2 man relay with Mick McGeough. This film has no sound.

The infamous mens 10000 metres from the 1978 World Track Championships in Mar del Plata, Argentina where Cruciani acrimoniously took the title ahead of De Persio resulting in a feud between the two Italians that would not be bridged. Footage taken by John Folley, then Australian team manager on an 8mm camera.

1983 World Track Championships - Mar del Plata, Argentina
The 1983 Championships were not attended by Great Britain for fear of reprisals from the Falkland's War just 12 months earlier. The races, however, were still top drawer with Bobby Kaiser being the star of the show. This event is also famed for the "wiping out" of Laura Perinti by an ambulancemen as she was just a few metres from the finish line and retaining her world title.
1984 Junior European Road Championships - Birmingham, Great Britain
The first time Great Britain had hosted a Junior European Championship saw gold medals for Ashley Harlow and Lisa Smith. The road circuit was on a car park of the Windley Leisure Centre in Sutton Coldfield. Other juniors of note were Tony Marriott, Sean McGeough, Lisa Burgess and Deborah Kitchener who would all go on and win senior international medals.
1984 Junior European Track Championships - Birmingham, Great Britain
Ashley Harlow and Lisa Smith were again victorious as they now competed on Britain's first purpose built banked track at the Birmingham Wheels Project.
1984 European Track & Road Championships - Vienna, Austria
Lisa Smith would bring home medals in her first outing in a senior GB shirt. This Championship also sees Rohan Harlow take on Thierry Penot in a head to head sprint for the finish and bring home the gold for Great Britain in the road relay.
1984 World Road Championships - Bogota, Colombia

Whilst Muse didn't win, his move resulted in a rule change regarding the foot needs to be on the floor when you finishing position/time is worked out.

You Tube footage of the 2003 World Championships in Barquisimeto, Colombia. The event saw the emergence of Joey Mantia as a talented junior who would take the world by storm. It is also notable for Venezuela taking their first ever gold medal with Fabian Arcila in the senior mens 500 metres - and the ensuing 'bust up' with Wayne Begg in the immediate aftermath. Unfortunately the video carries with it a watermark, but it is still watchable.
