About Me

started skating at the age of 10, got interested with speed skating after watching Leo Eason win a race at my local granby halls rink in the fifties, joined Birmingham rsc in 1959 off to a good start finished third in the north london trophy  handicap race at ally pally in 1960 with Les Woodley off scratch ( never understood why he never caught me,) had a serious leg (ankle) break the same year and never really recovered my confidence until the mid sixties only to find that i had a really bad race temperament and would not have won anything anyway, joined the southern club in 1966 along with Pete Howe and Phil Holmes after the BRSC imploded combined with the closure of  the embassy rink  leaving us without a rink although the mecca opened around  1967 but was a disaster as far as most of us were concerned, had a great time and made loads of friends many of whom i am still in touch with, retired from the sport in 1969 and need to thank J C Fry for his amazing efforts resulting in reuniting many of the skaters from my generation.

                                                                                                                 Thanks J C

Hi Roy
Easily solved , bought a new one, the email is [email protected] , but I lost all my address book.
I have had a few problems other than the computer, I had my prostate removed in January and just got the clear from that and they found a melanoma on my back and I had the second operation yesterday to remove that, so in a bit of pain at the moment.
I went to the last meeting at WHEELS and met up with Les, Ricky, Leo and Pat, John's Toy, Fry and Fry Jnr and Barry Fitzpatrick and I was hoping to go to the Nationals but I will see how I am and the same with the Worlds which I had planned on going to in Ostend next month.
See how it goes
Regards
Ron

Hi Roy
I believe you are correct Bryan moved around a bit, he was with Broadway most but I think he was with Palace and North London at some stage.
I went to the Birmingham Wheels meeting , which I thought you were going to attend, last weekend and met up with Les Woodley, John Toy, Ricky May, John Fry (Jnr and Snr) and Leo and Pat Eason. A good day had by all although sad to see Leo and Pat with health problems.
I lost my computer when it decided it did not want to work any more and lost all my contact info, so mail me on [email protected] so that I can rebuild my files.

Nice to hear from you Roy, and hope life is treating you well. I fondly remember the "old days" going away every weekend, and would love to meet up with all the old friends, but that's life eh? I'm afraid I lost touch with John Toy and would love to know if he is still with us, as indeed his wife Joan. Have you any information?- Perhaps hear from you sometime. All the best, Pete the Feet(Size 14 now!) - should have been a copper!
